Frequently Asked Questions

As of November 30, 2021, fully vaccinated travelers who have been in any country other than Canada and the United States in the 14 days prior to entry to Canada may be selected for testing when they arrive and must quarantine in a suitable place while waiting for the on-arrival test result. You may take public transportation, such as connecting flights, to your place of quarantine. In the coming weeks on arrival testing will be increased to 100% of vaccinated travelers.

If you’re a new-to-UBC international student, you’ll need to apply for MSP as soon as you arrive in BC. During the three-month period before your MSP coverage takes effect, you’ll automatically be enrolled in a temporary health insurance plan called iMED after you register for courses if you are a new UBC student. Your iMED coverage will begin on August 1. 

You will need a recently issued letter of Enrollment to approve you are a current, enrolled UBC student, ideally within a week of your travel date.

You need a SIN before starting work in Canada, to file taxes as well as access government programs and benefits. You need to check your study permit conditions about whether employment is allowed during your study before applying. More information and applying steps can be found here

A U-Pass (Universal Pass) BC gives students access to bus, SeaBus and SkyTrain services within Metro Vancouver, as well as discounts on West Coast Express. You can load your U-Pass through the U-Pass BC portal.

The Keep Learning website offers resources and tips to help you learn effectively, get to know online teaching technologies used at UBC and also take care of yourself while learning online.

UBC Recreation has created these resources to help you stay active while studying at home, which include live movement sessions, at-home workouts and ‘deskercises’

If you are planning on graduating in May 2022, remember to get your photograph done for the 2021/2022 Forestry Class Composite. (Note: if you are graduating for November 2022, you will be in the 2022/2023 composite, but you can still get your photograph taken now).

Your photo will need to be taken by February 28th, 2022 to be included in the class composite.

Each department makes separate arrangements to have composite photos that are often framed and hung in their premises.  Please contact the undergraduate coordinator in your program for more information.

The Ceremonies Office (that’s us) works with Grad Images on your graduation day.  Each graduate for whom Grad Images has an email and/or mailing address should receive a copy of their proofs within a few days.  

All diplomas are handled by Enrolment Services at Brock Hall.  To have your diploma mailed or pick up in person,  please contact Enrolment Graduation or call 604-822-9836.
