Inclusive Forestry Peer Mentor

The Inclusive Forestry Peer Mentor (IFPM) team is a group of dedicated senior 2+2/3+2 transfer students (spent at least one academic year at UBC) who are interested in supporting and enhancing the study life of their peers (new incoming transfer program students), and building a sense of learning community within the Faculty of Forestry.

Youquan Gong

Urban Forestry

Youquan is from Ningbo. He is a 3+3 transfer student from ZAFU. He loves gardening, cooking, and board games, and is known as a non-typical ENFJ and the chef of the dorm for everyone. In his final year in Vancouver, he is writing a "Cooking Guidebook for UBC Chinese International Students (revision)." He was awarded with 2023W Faculty of Forestry International Student Scholarship. Over the past few years, he has been serving in various student associations. His academic interests include insect identification and forestry policy research. Runchuan (Anna) Xu

Wood Products

Runchuan (Anna) Xu is a transfer student from BFU studying Wood Products Processing at UBC. She is passionate about woodworking, crafting, and painting. and works as a WorkLearn student in the CAWP right now. She won the Canadian Woodworking Machinery Distributors Association Prize in the 2023 Summer term and the UBC-UBG scholarship.  Embracing each opportunity at UBC, she aims to make a meaningful impact within the Wood Science community.

Shangcheng Li

Urban Forestry

Shangcheng was transferred from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) and going to graduate in the Urban Forestry program from UBC in 2024. From his past learning trajectory, he has worked and volunteered in various positions, such as urban forestry research assistant, summer Work-Learn program, museum educator, and arborist assistant. Yifan Xie

Conservation

Yifan, a transfer student from FAFU, is majoring in natural resources conservation. Her academic journey from China to Canada has broadened her horizons and ignited a passion for addressing environmental issues. She deeply believes in the power and mystery of nature, viewing it as a force deserving the utmost respect and care. As the VP of Media for the International Forestry Student Association—University of British Columbia Local Committee (IFSA-UBC), Yifan disseminates environmental knowledge through social media and invites the public to academic seminars. In her free time, she finds solace and connection in the great outdoors, capturing the fleeting beauty of the natural world through photography.

Yuxin Chen

Conservation

Hi! I’m an undergraduate student at UBC, studying Natural Resources Conservation and Management. I served as an intern Ecology and River Researcher in the Government of China, where I gained valuable insights into river ecosystems. Currently, I’m working as an EcoRanger in Stanley Park, passionately introducing visitors to its diverse species and fascinating ecosystems. I have a deep love for wild species and the breathtaking beauty of nature. My goal is to contribute to the conservation and protection of our precious natural resources. Fanni Xu

Forest Resource Management

Fanni Xu is a transfer student from Nanjing Forestry University (NJFU), majoring in forest resource management. She won the UBC-UBG level II scholarship in 2021 and the UBC Go Global scholarship in 2022. Her current research focuses include the ecological effects of Green for Green Program (GFGP) in Northwestern China and farmers’ perceptions of GFGP in China. She is interested in fields like terrestrial carbon ecosystems, management of national parks in China, and conservation issues in biological hotspot areas. Jiayi Shi

Forest Sciences

I come from Shaanxi, China, a transfer student from BFU. I major in forest sciences and have research experience in microbiology. I participated in URO-REX program in the year 2021-2022 at UBC and published an abstract in URNCST Journal. I am serving as a volunteer journal assistant for URNCST Journal. I was also a teaching volunteer in UBC Chinese Learning Program. I love singing, drawing, watching horror movies, and swimming. I am outgoing and easy to communicate with!

Runyi Shen

Forest Sciences

Runyi is a transfer student from Beijing Forestry University (BFU). He had volunteered in plant molecular labs at both BFU and UBC. As a person that is enthusiastic about biological science, Runyi has now finished his third-year academic session at UBC and is willing to keep studying in the biological field to investigate the secrets of life. Chenming Wei

Tianrun (Kira) Wang

Natural Resources Conservation

Tianrun (Kira) Wang is a 2+3 transfer student from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, she was admitted into the University of British Columbia in 2021. She is currently working as a TA in the summer go global program. Yiyang Shen

Urban Forestry

Yiyang (Daniel) is from Hangzhou, a third-year transfer student from ZAFU, majoring in UF (Urban Green Space Management). He got 2-year experience in researching the interaction of microorganisms at ZAFU and won the UBC-UBG Scholarship when he entered UBC. He enjoys traveling and taking pictures, especially of landscapes and wildlife. Herbert Dong

Wood Products Processing

Herbert is from Beijing Forestry University and he has studied at UBC for two years. He majors in Wood Products Processing and is now in the CO-OP program (not minor in Commerce). Jiahui Lian

Natural Resources Conservation

Jiahui studied Ecology at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University and was admitted to the Natural Resources Conservation program at the University of British Columbia in 2020. She was awarded the 2020 UBC-UBG forestry scholarship by the faculty of forestry. In her spare time, she enjoys pottery, an activity that appeals to her as a way of visualizing and preserving instant inspiration. She is very willing to share her experience to help transfer students adapt better to the new learning environment. Xiaoyu Shi

Qingyang (Laura) Li 

Natural Resources Conservation

Laura is from Changsha City, Hunan Province, China. She is a 3+2 student at UBC from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU). She is interested in painting, eating, and playing video games. She also loves anime, musical, and fluffy pets. She has volunteer and work experience as a panda keeper in the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in 2016. She also had an internship in the Hunan Academy of Forestry during the winter vacation in 2019.

Siwei has a background in commerce and is going to receive a degree in Wood Science both at BFU and UBC. She is willing to chat with others and ready to help. As a Co-op student, she once worked as a research assistant in the Advanced Renewable Materials Laboratory at UBC’s Wood Science Department.

Wenqing (Eva) Kong:

Forest Resources Management

An enthusiastic student has a dual degree of Finance and Forest Resources Management with the National Scholarship and First-class Scholarship, who is keen on making better use of the natural resources to serve the economy in a more sustainable manner. And she had an internship experience in McKinsey & Company as a management consultant. She is also an Associate of UBC CSSA and Guzheng chief of UBC China Music Club.

Yiqi Yan, a transfer student from Zhejiang A&F University and came to UBC in 2019. Throughout the time at ZAFU, she won a Zhejiang provincial government scholarship. She has participated in Co-op Program in her first year at UBC. She has an interest in traveling.

Yizheng (Skyler) Wang

Natural Resources Conservation - Global perspective

She came from FAFU to UBC in 2018 with UBC-UBG scholarship, expected to graduate in 2021. She has done research projects relating forest certification, agroforestry, and remote sensing. Participated in Go global summer exchange program in Denmark, conducted field research in IKEA headquarter and was awarded the Go Global International Learning Programs Award.

Yufei Zhu

Yufei is a transfer student from Zhejiang A&F University. She came to UBC with UBC-UBG scholarship in 2019. She is willing to help freshmen answer questions about their major and life.
